Newlands Community Transport

Newlands Community Transport is a service operated by Newlands Community Development Trust (NCDT), providing accessible and affordable transport in the Tweeddale area of the Scottish Borders. lt is supported by local people raising funds throughout West Tweeddale alongside a grant from the Community Climate Asset Fund. The Community Minibus is based in Romanno Bridge, West Linton and is a specially adapted vehicle, accommodating (along with the driver) 13 seated passengers.

Who is it for? The Minibus can be used by individuals, groups (non-profit) and organisations within our community that would benefit from the service.

Who can drive the Community Minibus? Anyone registered as an approved volunteer driver with Newlands Community Transport, with a clean driving licence aged 21 to 70. Groups and organisations can nominate a volunteer to register as an approved driver with Newlands Community Transport. If you don’t have a volunteer to nominate, we may be able to arrange a volunteer driver for you, as long as sufficient notice is given.

Volunteer drivers are always welcomed. Please get in touch with Newlands Community Transport and help us to help local groups with transport needs. We can also provide MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training.

MiDAS promotes a nationally recognised standard for the assessment and training of minibus drivers, and has been designed to enhance minibus driving standards and promote the safe
operation of minibuses. Training will include a classroom based module, a practical module and a driving assessment.

What does it cost? Journeys are charged at £1.20 per mile. If Newlands Community Transport provides the volunteer driver, journeys will be charged at £1.40 per mile. There is a minimum charge of £20 per round trip for all journeys. All parking charges will be passed on.
